Blocked Path

BLOCKED PATH

You're walking down the footpath, you turn the corner, and you find the path obstructed or the stile broken or in a bad state of repair. What do you do?

Remove the obstruction?

Find a route around the obstruction?

Proceed carefully over the obstruction and continue on your way?

Nothing, turn around and go back the way you came?

Obviously, you should not attempt to remove a large obstruction (know your limitations and capabilities). Never attempt to repair a stile, there are Health and Safety implications. Nor should you do anything illegal or anything that may endanger livestock or other people.

OR

You may prefer to use the services of the "Open Spaces Workshop" which is jointly run by South Gloucestershire and Bath & North East Somerset Council’s. You’ll find the chaps who work in the workshop friendly and approachable. All you need do is to ask them politely if they can assist, when they’re next in the area, to remove an obstruction or repair a stile. You should give an accurate description and the location of the problem. Remember, you should also report the problem to your Footpath Secretary.

After all, if nobody reports that there is a problem. How do you expect it to be resolved? Never assume that somebody else will report a problem. Take action yourself and feel proud that you’ve done your bit for your fellow walkers!
